Sentence?<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>compound sentence<\/strong> has <strong>two independent clauses<\/strong> joined by a <strong>coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>FANBOYS<\/strong> = <strong>F<\/strong>or, <strong>A<\/strong>nd, <strong>N<\/strong>or, <strong>B<\/strong>ut, <strong>O<\/strong>r, <strong>Y<\/strong>et, <strong>S<\/strong>o<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2705 <strong>Rule:<\/strong> Use a <strong>comma BEFORE<\/strong> the conjunction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I wanted to play outside, <strong>but<\/strong> it started raining. \ud83c\udf27\ufe0f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>She is very smart, <strong>and<\/strong> she works hard. \ud83d\udca1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>What is a Complex Sentence?<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>complex sentence<\/strong> has <strong>one independent clause + one dependent clause<\/strong>.<br>Dependent clauses begin with <strong>subordinating conjunctions<\/strong> (because, although, if, when, since, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2705 <strong>Rule A:<\/strong> If the <strong>dependent clause comes first<\/strong>, use a <strong>comma<\/strong>.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Although<\/strong> it was late, we continued studying.
