👉 An appositive is a noun or pronoun that comes right after another noun or pronoun to explain or rename it.
Example:
- My brother, Ravi, is a doctor. 🧑⚕️
(Here Ravi is an appositive; it renames “my brother.”)
| What is an Appositive Phrase? |
👉 An appositive phrase includes the appositive and the words that describe it.
Example:
- The rose, a beautiful red flower 🌹, bloomed in the garden.
(Appositive phrase = a beautiful red flower)
| How to Identify Them? |
1️⃣ Look for a noun that renames another noun.
2️⃣ Check if the phrase gives extra information about the noun.
3️⃣ Notice that appositives are often set off by commas (,).
